Admissions

Year 7 Admissions September 2023

Applications are welcomed for places for boys resident in all boroughs.

PROSPECTUS

If you would like a copy of the school's prospectus then please telephone the school on 020 8391 4324 or email them at office@southborough.kingston.sch.uk. Alternatively, a copy is available here.

 Admissions Criteria

If more than 135 applications are received places will be offered according to the following criteria, used in this priority order:

1. Places will be offered first to Looked After Children (children in the care of a Local Authority or being provided with accommodation by a Local Authority in the exercise of their social services functions) and previously looked after children (children who have been adopted or made subject to a child arrangements or special guardianship order). Applications made under this criterion must be accompanied by details of circumstances and professionally supported evidence (such as from a social worker).

2. Places will be offered next  to children who have a brother or sister, including adopted, foster, half or step brother or sister, living at the same address and attending the same school at the time of admission.

3. Places will then be offered in cases of exceptional circumstances on medical and social grounds; the grounds on which the application is made must be supported by written evidence from a registered health professional such as a consultant doctor or psychologist for medical cases, or social worker, educational welfare officer, health visitor, police or probation officer for other social circumstances to demonstrate that Southborough High School is the secondary school most suitable for that student. This evidence must be submitted at the time of application.

4. The remaining places will be offered to children who live nearest the school, as measured by a straight line to the nearest school gate. All distances will be measured using the School Admissions’ computerized geographical information system. The realistic catchment area for 2020 is contained within a radius of 3.7km from the school.

Boys  with an Education, Health and Care Plan will be allocated a place at the school if it is named in their EHCP, before the arrangements above are applied; in this way, the number of places available will be reduced by the number of children with an EHCP that have named the school.

Late applications will be considered only after all applications received by the closing date have been considered.

Waiting List

The waiting list will automatically consist of the names of unsuccessful applicants who have not had a higher preference offer. This list will be held in criteria order and will include any late applications.

Names of boys who have had a higher preference offer, or who did not originally name the school as a preference, can be added to the waiting list. These names will be added to the list in criteria order regardless of the date the application was received. The waiting list will be held until July 2021. After this date parents will have to request in writing to have their child’s name added to the waiting list.
