During the recent half-term holiday, 34 Year 11 Geography students and staff from Southborough High School embarked on a fabulous four-day tour of the stunning Bay of Naples. Guided by knowledgeable and friendly experts, our students dove headfirst into an unforgettable journey blending rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and geographical wonders.

The adventure kicked off with the exploration of the fascinating underground tunnels of Naples, before soaking up the picturesque coastal beauty of Sorrento and the enchanting island of Capri. While enjoying an alfresco lunch at the top of Capri, the boys were joined by some unexpected visitors—pygmy goats! To everyone's amusement, these furry locals were far more interested in sharing the students' lunch than taking in the view.

A major highlight of the trip was exploring the legendary archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. With brilliant expert guidance, the students brought their classroom studies to life, soaking in the historical and geographical significance of these ancient cities. Blessed with gorgeous sunshine, the group also took on the formidable challenge of climbing to the top of the crater of Mount Vesuvius—the very volcano responsible for the historic eruption back in AD 79. Reaching the summit was no mean feat, but the panoramic views made every step worthwhile.

Beyond the geography, the students thoroughly enjoyed immersing themselves in Italian culture. From savouring delicious, authentic dishes in local family-run restaurants to navigating the vibrant streets, the trip offered a true taste of Italy.

Throughout the four days, our students behaved impeccably. They were a credit to the school, demonstrating wonderful teamwork, supporting one another, and showing utmost politeness and respect to locals and fellow tourists alike.

A massive thank you goes to Ms Harrington and the entire Geography department for organising and running such a phenomenal trip, as well as to our Year 11 Pastoral Officer, Ms Brown, for joining the team and helping make it such a resounding success. It was truly an experience to remember!
