During a recent Open Season tour, a prospective parent asked a thoughtful question: “My son’s friends love sport and will thrive in your sports teams, but my son is quieter and prefers smaller groups. What activities do you offer that would suit him?”
It was a delight to answer. Our school motto, ‘Making the Difference for All’, applies just as much outside the classroom as it does within it.
When it comes to extra-curricular activities, we make it our mission to ensure there is genuinely something for everyone at Southborough.
For students who enjoy a peaceful environment, our vibrant Library hosts daily reading and homework clubs. History enthusiasts can dive into our popular 'Horrible Histories' Club on Monday lunchtimes. Those looking for relaxing downtime can bring their packed lunch and join our Chess, Lego, Board Games, or Warhammer Clubs, where friendly matches and quiet creativity flourish in smaller groups.
Creative minds are equally well catered for, with regular Music (including Samba band and singing) and Drama session. For those exploring big ideas, our weekly Christian Alpha Club offers a warm space to discuss topical ethical questions, while our active Eco-Club tackles hands-on sustainability projects—boosting leadership skills, reducing waste, and promoting biodiversity across the school. Older students can also take advantage of unique opportunities, such as Sixth Form K-Club (exploring Korean culture, cuisine, and films), our thriving Cadet unit, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme from Year 9 onwards.
Of course, our traditional sports provision remains as energetic as ever! Daily lunchtime and after-school clubs cover football, rugby, basketball, cricket, badminton, and table tennis, alongside access to our fitness gym for senior students.
Whether your son wants to sprint across a sports field, sing in an ensemble, build with Lego, or champion green issues as an eco-warrior, he will find a welcoming home here. Our rich variety of clubs ensures that every single student has the chance to make friends, build confidence, and pursue what they love.
