Another Blazing Success!
Each year, our annual Sports Day fixture provides the perfect opportunity for the whole Southborough community to get out into the fresh air, enjoy some quality bonding time, and, above all, have some sporting fun. This year, we were once again blessed with blazing sunshine throughout the entire day at Kingsmeadow on Thursday, making for an absolutely picture-perfect event.
Students of all sporting abilities were encouraged to take part, while the day also provided a brilliant showcase for our more elite sportsmen to truly shine. The atmosphere was electric, with students cheering on their form members from the sidelines. Naturally, our Form Tutors couldn’t help but become extremely competitive themselves, roaring their support as their classes raced along the tracks and dominated the field events. It was also wonderful to see so many parents and carers join us in the sunshine to cheer on their loved ones.
Our Sixth Form students played a vital role in supporting both staff and students. Acting as event 'go-betweens', they helped run the shot put, long jump, and high jump, whilst ensuring the control team received results the moment they happened. The grand finale of the day saw our Sixth Formers compete against their teachers in a highly anticipated relay. To the delight of the staff, victory belonged to the PE department this year!
The competitive spirit was alive and well, leading to several thrilling 'photo finishes'. A special mention must go to David A in Year 7, who smashed both the 100m and high jump school records! The Year 10 students also showed excellent competitiveness, delivering one of the fastest 100m finals the school has ever seen.
Our core school values were on full display throughout. The behaviour of the boys was superb, and staff felt immensely proud of their conduct. The highlight for many students, however, was watching the staff—grouped into their respective faculties—compete in one of the final races. The boys thoroughly enjoyed seeing their teachers being put through their paces on the track!
The PE department would like to say a massive thank you to all students, staff, and parents for making the day such a resounding success. Finally, a huge thank you goes to our key organiser, Head of PE Mr Colbert, and the rest of the PE team for delivering such a smoothly run and memorable day.
