At Southborough High School, we believe that preparing our students for life beyond the school gates is one of our most vital responsibilities. While the digital age allows for endless online research into future vocations, we remain firm believers that nothing beats face-to-face interaction. Hearing directly from industry professionals—learning about their personal journeys, the hurdles they overcame, and the specific skill sets required to thrive—provides an insight that a website simply cannot replicate.

Our commitment to careers guidance is not a one-off event but a robust, year-round programme designed to inspire and inform. Throughout the academic year, we host a variety of invaluable events, including tailored CV workshops and interview technique sessions supported by local business partners. These initiatives ensure our boys are not just dreaming of the future, but are practically equipped to navigate the competitive job market. From university campus visits to deep-dive industry talks, the curriculum is designed to broaden horizons at every key stage.

A Week of Opportunity

The past week has been a particularly vibrant period for our careers department. We were delighted to host a comprehensive Careers Fair, featuring a vast array of exhibitors. Students had the opportunity to engage with representatives from, amongst others,  the police force, legal firms, and the construction industry, alongside several prestigious universities and colleges. This variety ensures that whether a student is interested in a vocational trade, public service, or higher academic study, they have a clear roadmap to follow.

The momentum continued on Wednesday with our Year 10 Careers Networking event. This fast-paced session gave students the unique chance to speak one-on-one with professionals from a diverse range of modern sectors. In an era where the professional landscape is evolving at the rate of knots, it is essential that our students look beyond traditional roles. The networking event featured experts in:

• Cyber Security
• Software Development
• Scientific Informatics for R&D
• Employment Law and Financial Services
