Southborough held its first ever interform rugby tournament this week, as a physical break from their exams during these final days of term. And so iIt was a thrilling morning of rugby at Southborough’s playing fields as five Year 7 forms battled it out in a highly competitive interform tournament. The event showcased not only impressive sporting talent but also the strong embodiment of the school's core values: resilience, relationships, and respect.
The competition was fierce, with teams demonstrating great resilience to fight for every metre on the pitch. In a closely contested final outcome, it was 7AFE who emerged as the eventual winners, securing the title on tries scored after all matches were played. Their victory was a testament to a superb team effort and several standout individual performances.
7AFE's success was powered by the dynamic running and try-scoring ability of David, whose pace consistently troubled the opposition. His efforts were matched by Isaac's formidable tackling, which provided a solid defensive foundation for the winning team.
The other forms put up a tremendous fight, with several pupils across the board catching the eye with their skill and determination. Notable performances came from Kobey and Finley, who displayed great athleticism and commitment. Tiam and Joseph Y also had excellent tournaments, showing great skill and tenacity throughout the matches.
Beyond the individual brilliance, the tournament was a fantastic display of positive relationships. Players from all forms encouraged their teammates, demonstrating brilliant teamwork and camaraderie. The interform nature of the competition fostered a strong sense of pride and unity within each group.
Crucially, the spirit of respect was evident throughout the day. Despite the competitive nature of the matches, all participants showed excellent sportsmanship towards their opponents and the officials. The event highlighted how sport can be a powerful arena for healthy competition while upholding the highest standards of mutual respect.
