Best ever results for our students

Here at Southborough, we absolutely love Maths! To inspire our most able mathematicians and keep their skills sharp, we proudly ensure that they compete nationally each year in the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge. This is a 60-minute, 25-question multiple-choice competition run by the UK Mathematics Trust. The Challenge is designed to promote mathematical reasoning, encourage precision of thought, and develop problem-solving fluency, making it a fantastic opportunity to stretch students' mathematical abilities.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that this year, our students achieved the best results in the school’s history! Out of all participants, 27 students earned a bronze award, recognising their strong problem-solving and reasoning skills. Additionally, 14 students earned a silver award, showcasing their outstanding performance. Most impressively, 8 students were awarded gold, placing them among the top achievers nationally.

Furthermore, the excitement doesn’t end there—five of our boys have been invited to take part in the next stage of the competition, the Kangaroo Challenge. This is a remarkable achievement, as only the top 10% of UK participants progress to this prestigious round. The Kangaroo Challenge is known for its elevated level of difficulty and requires even greater mathematical insight and perseverance, and we couldn’t be prouder of those who earned this honour.

These achievements reflect not only the students' dedication and talent but also the exceptional support and guidance they receive from our passionate mathematics department. It’s moments like these that demonstrate the power of teamwork, determination, and enthusiasm for learning.

We’d like to take this opportunity to extend a huge well done to all the students who took part in the Challenge. Whether earning an award or simply engaging with the competition, their efforts and resilience make us immensely proud. We look forward to seeing their continued success and celebrating even greater heights in the years to come. Keep up the excellent work, mathematicians!
