Questions and queries

If you are not able to catch your child's class teacher either at the beginning or end of the school day to answer questions or queries, or if the information you are seeking involves applications to the school, the payment of school meals or uniform, then your point of call will be the school office. The school's administration staff will endeavour to answer your questions as quickly as possible. They will be able to answer many questions instantly but if this is not possible, they will endeavour to ring you back the same day with the correct information.

The school can also be contacted via this contact page on the school's website. Incoming e- mails directed to are all sent to a member of the office staff on duty who then sends them to the most appropriate person within the school to deal with your query. Again, we will endeavour to answer your queries as quickly as possible but please allow two to three days for queries to be answered in this manner. You may use the form located at the bottom of the school’s Home Page to send more detailed written information.

Southborough High is a non-selective academy school for boys between the ages of 11 and 16, and boys and girls post 16. The roll is c.800, over 130 of whom are in the sixth form. Southborough High is a thriving school which is continually developing and improving and has a very good reputation locally. The school provides a high quality of education in a happy and purposeful atmosphere. The current Headteacher took up post in November 2011 since when a wide range of improvements have been achieved. Our OFSTED Inspection in December 2013 was very successful and catalogues a range of high achievement by pupils and staff.

Southborough is a confident, dynamic school where students thrive both academically and socially. We are determined to ensure that all students achieve their absolute best in public examinations and are committed to high quality teaching and learning as the way to achieve this goal. However, we nurture and value other achievements, as well as exam success.

Our students participate and excel in a wide range of extra-curricular, vocational and community based activities, which help them become well rounded young adults, ready for the challenges of twenty first century life...

We are delighted with our students’ performance in their examinations this year. Not only did the grades awarded reflect the students’ hard work and that of their teachers, but there were significant increases on our 2012 results.

In terms of A Level, 51% of all grades were A*-B (up from 37% in 2012); 73% of all grades were A*-C (up from 60% in 2012). These grades, which were achieved in a full range of subjects, will enable our students to pursue their future aspirations fully, whether that be at university or in the world of work.

Our GCSE results were also extremely pleasing: 59% of students achieved the benchmark 5A*-C including English and Maths (up from 48% in 2012). 38% of students achieved the EBacc, which means that they achieved an A*-C in English, Maths, two Sciences, a Humanity and a Language (this percentage is well above the national average and up from 27% in 2012). Moreover, 19% of all grades were awarded A or A*, which is fantastic!

But Southborough is a fully inclusive school, which caters for a full range of attainment, not only the high fliers: 99% of our students achieved 5A*-G and 100% achieved 1A*-G. These percentages represent a significant achievement for our students and their teachers.

Our students have proved that, with the right teaching and support, they can all achieve: we are very proud of them and look forward to sustaining their success in 2014.

Mr N. Smith
