Aspiration, Commitment and Excellence

I love being the headteacher of this school. Not only does the progress we have made over recent years fill me with enormous pride, but I also know that this is a school where staff and students work exceptionally well together. We are a school that is going places!

The middle Thursday in August is a special day for all students completing their Level 3 qualifications and graduating from the 6th Form.
Traditionally, there is a buzz of excitement, anticipation and anxiousness as students enter the building to collect the brown envelope containing an academic transcript of their achievement. Teachers, support and administrative staff, and senior leaders gather early to get the inside scoop, prepare to share in the emotions of the day and play their final role in supporting students as they move on to the next phase of their education and life.

If you ever wanted to see all of the Southborough values in action, this was the place to be. In any one snapshot you could capture; Support, Challenge, Respect, Responsibility, Risk-taking, Resilience and Relationships. On this day, the students are rewarded for their efforts, awarded grades based on academic performance and merit, and get clarity on their next steps towards life after Southborough...

Nobody could have predicted a year like this. A world-wide pandemic that has touched most people’s lives.
Work, school and lifestyle all disrupted. People shielding and having to work from home. Children having to stay apart from their friends and elderly relatives.

For those young boys who were looking forward to enjoying their last few months at primary school before starting ‘big school’ in September, it must have felt particularly distressing and dis-orientating. Months of staying at home, completing school work via computer and having to make do with siblings as sometimes ‘not-so-much-fun’ substitute school friends have certainly taken its toll.

The thought of starting a new school, a new environment with new teachers and school friends was something that many young boys were understandably beginning to get a little worried about. It was these very real concerns about our future students that inspired Southborough High School to run a special ‘Year 6 into Year 7’ two week Summer School in August for students due to start in September...for more, please click here

Here is a video which is the result of a little project called 1+UP, in which we aimed to promote the resilience culture within the school by letting students know that it is okay to ask for help. The video is out and you can view it by clicking on the image below

Thomas Bolt Awarded RAG 2020 SUPERSTAR STATUS!

Thomas Bolt Rag Superstar 2020

Although RAG 2020 had to come to a bit of an abrupt end earlier this year due to the Covid 19 outbreak, it seems that one particular young Southborough student  - namely Thomas Bolt 8OSA – was not going to let a little thing like lockdown spoil any chance to raise as much money for charity as possible.

To this end, Thomas conducted not only a sponsored silence but a sponsored walk as well .After lockdown restrictions were lifted, he was able to collect the money and bring it into school.

Headboy Anjevan Mahendran – who, along with the rest of the Junior Leadership Team led this years’ highly successful RAG 2020 campaign - has awarded Thomas the special title of SOUTHBOROUGH RAG SUPERSTAR 2020 for raising an incredible £127 for charity. Well done, Thomas!! We are so very proud of you!

Virtual Sports Day/Week

pe sports day 2019 at Kingsmeadow

In the week starting July 6th we will be running our first virtual sports day/week.

Each day an event will be posted online to complete for every student in every form across the school. To provide evidence that the event was completed students will be required to upload a photo or video of them completing the event. The events will all be ones that can be completed at home.

Forms will win points by having the highest number of entries so it is important for students to get their forms to upload and share their events.

All details will be posted on classcharts and google classroom.
