At Southborough High School we are dedicated in promoting fundamental British Values. The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy and these values have been reiterated by the Prime Minister. At Southborough High School these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways:
- The whole of key stage 3 attending a carol service at our local church
- Inspiring our students to join our Combined Cadet Forces at Southborough High School
- Fully engaging in British sporting events and traditions such as Ballboys at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships
- Regular school assemblies to promote British cultural events such as Christmas, Easter, Remembrance Sunday, Holocaust Memorial Day and other key British dates
- Also ensuring the promotion of British Values to our students takes place within our personal development timetable throughout he whole school. A programme of the 5 key areas of what we promote to our students can be seen below
