Volunteering

Southborough Sixth Formers:

Volunteering in the Local Community

All members of our Southborough Sixth Form are expected to behave in a mature and responsible way  and to be positive role models to our younger students both within the school environment and outside in the community.

Volunteering 1

Many of our Sixth Formers put aside a little of their time each week to volunteer at a variety of organisations so that they can help support their community in some small way. For example, some students volunteer to work in local charity shops, helping to sort out stock, tidy up and meet and greet customers as they come and go.

Volunteering 2

A number of our Sixth Formers are lucky enough to secure volunteer roles at the local hospital, where they get the opportunity to help with general administrative jobs, meet and greet patients - and even chat and make them tea! In addition, a small number of students regularly volunteer at ‘Refugee ACT Kingston’, providing valuable support through helping young refugees with their homework.

Royal star and garter

Other students volunteer to visit and chat to elderly residents at the Royal Star & Garter Residential Home for ex-servicemen, based in Surbiton, Surrey. Whilst providing invaluable companionship to the residents, there’s a great deal of mutual benefit, as students hear about the amazing life stories of many of those who reside there.

Whatever type of volunteering our Sixth Formers take, the most important thing is that they learn the importance of setting time aside for helping others – and how very rewarding it can be in return.
